Ayamonte is one of those corners where time slows down: market mornings, long afternoons by the Guadiana, and that marshland silence broken only by herons and the odd fishing boat. A quiet place to truly switch off, with the open beaches of Isla Canela just a step away.
And across the river, Portugal: a twenty-minute ferry takes you to the most exclusive Algarve — Vila Real de Santo António, Monte Gordo, Tavira — with its light, its beaches and one hour less on the clock. Two countries and the sea, all within reach.
The morning market, tapas on Plaza de la Laguna and the open sand of Isla Canela. Doñana, Huelva and Seville a short drive away.
Vila Real de Santo António right opposite, with Monte Gordo, Tavira and one hour less on the clock. Afternoon coffee in another country.
The house sits on the edge of Ayamonte, right by the Guadiana estuary and a few minutes from Isla Canela beach. Faro airport (Portugal) is about 50 minutes away and Seville just over an hour.
